This website concerns the life and works of the Irish playwright Brian Friel (1929-), in particular his play, 'Dancing at Lughnasa'. It is intended as information for students required to write a short essay on Friel covering major themes in his work, especially the position of Ireland. Quotations are provided from critical studies of Friel, and a bibliography of such studies concludes the web page. Hyperlinks take the user to explanatory pages and while the site does not seem to have been updated recently, most of the links are active. This site is most likely to be of use to undergraduates, both for early research on Brian Friel, and for the model it offers for a straightforward research methodology.
